Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY - Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones (34-33) were down 6-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning trailing the Sioux Falls Canaries (31-38), but with some magic from Danny Mars, they were able to walk it off in unbelievable fashion to get the win, 7-6.
The T-Bones scored first in the bottom of the first when Chris Colabello hit a ground out that scored Dylan Tice, grabbing an early lead, 1-0.
Sioux Falls snagged the lead from the T-Bones in the top of the second, however, as Alay Lago hit a home run off of pitcher Tommy Collier. Then, Mitch Glasser hit a single that scored Andrew Ely, erasing the T-Bone lead and making it 2-1 in favor of the Canaries.
The Canaries furthered their lead 4-1, when Mitch Glasser hit a sacrifice fly that scored Ely. Then, Brett Vertigan hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Clint Coulter in the top of the fourth.
The T-Bones fell even more behind when Sioux Falls' Burt Reynolds hit a double that scored Vertigan and Glasser in the top of the sixth, making it 6-1.
Kansas City began their march back in the bottom of the seventh, when Roy Morales hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Daniel Nava .
As the T-Bones came to bat in the bottom of the ninth, the game looked almost lost. Ramsey Romano pitched a clean eighth inning, and then came back in the lineup for the T-Bones. First, Roy Morales hit a single that scored Mason Davis. Then, Danny Mars hit a three-run home run off pitcher Will Solomon that scored both Morales and Tyler Marincov. Then, after a walk for Romano, Tice hit a single that moved Ramsey Romano to third.
With one out remaining Sioux Falls went to the pen and brought in right-hander Alex Ogren to face Shawn O'Malley. The T-Bones short stop stepped to the plate and hit a high sac fly to left that brought Romano home, stealing the win from Sioux Falls and walking off winners, 7-6.
The winning pitcher is Ramsey Romano (1-0) for the Kansas City T-Bones, the same player who scored the winning run. The losing pitcher is Will Solomon (0-2) for the Sioux Falls Canaries.
The Kansas City T-Bones will play the rubber match of the three-game series with the Sioux Falls Canaries Thursday, August 1st at 7:05 p.m. at JustBats field. Hear all the action on the T-Bones Broadcast Network.
