Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure a 7-4 win Thursday afternoon and a perfect 6-0 record against the Chicago Dogs at Newman Outdoor Field this year. The RedHawks rallied for seven unanswered runs in the fifth and eighth innings to win the series finale this afternoon by a score of 7-4 in front of the sixth sellout crowd of the season.
Undefeated this season, Sebastian Kessay (7-0) started on the mound for the RedHawks against Chicago's Wes Torrez (1-3). Kessay appeared to struggle through the second and third innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while Torrez only allowed a single hit through the first three innings of play.
Momentum began to shift when the RedHawks knocked Torrez out of the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kessay went six innings for Fargo-Moorhead, allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out three Dogs, and walking three more.
The 'Hawks bats came alive in the fifth inning when they scored three runs on a Tim Colwell RBI ground rule double and a Devan Ahart two-run home run - his 6th of the year.
The RedHawks completed the comeback in the eighth inning with four runs on three hits and two Chicago errors thanks to a picture perfect bunt by Daniel Comstock and a 2-RBI single from Brennan Metzger.
Fargo-Moorhead's bullpen got the job done again tonight with Joe Filomeno retiring all six Dogs he faced and picking up his sixth win of the season (6-0). Geoff Broussard only allowed one hit in his inning of work and picked up his 20th save of the season.
The RedHawks' lead in the North Division is at one game over the Saints and four games over the Goldeyes. The RedHawks will open a four-game set against Winnipeg at home for the first time this season on Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:02 pm, with a post game fireworks show.
