Las Vegas Wranglers News Release

Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers(r) announced today that they have received goaltender Billy Sauer on loan from the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League.

Sauer, 21, joins the Wranglers after appearing in seven games for the Charlotte Checkers and Toledo Walleye where he compiled a 2-2-1 record.

"I have heard nothing but great things about Billy. He had a very successful collegiate career and earned an AHL contract", said Wranglers General Manager and Head Coach Ryan Mougenel. "He hasn't had the opportunity to play as much as he deserves but he will have a chance to prove himself in Las Vegas right away."

The 6' 2", 185 lb. netminder is in his first professional season after a four-year career at the University of Michigan where he finished ranked third among Michigan's all-time goaltending leaders in save percentage (.908), fourth in goals-against average (2.56) and shutouts (8), and was fifth in wins (71).

Sauer's most successful season occurred in 2007-08 when he posted a 30-4-3 record in 38 appearances as a junior, helping the Wolverines advance to the 2008 NCAA Men's Frozen Four. His 30 victories that season led the nation. The Rochester, New York, native was selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the seventh round, #201 overall, of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

The Las Vegas Wranglers(r) are the ECHL affiliate to the National Hockey League's Phoenix Coyotes and the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage. Follow the Wranglers on Twitter at www.twitter.com/WranglersLV.
