Atlanta Gladiators News Release


Streakers: Forward Matt Siddall is currently on a three-game goal streak, with three goals and an assist. Forward Tom Zanoski is also on a three-game goal streak and four-game point streak with three goals and two assists. Rookie forward Pat Galivan is on a five game point streak with four goals and three assists.

Leader: Zanoski is tied for first in the American Conference with 12 goals.

Special Teams: The Gladiators own the best power play unit in the league, scoring 23 times in 97 man-advantages (23.7%). The Gladiators also own the best road penalty killing unit, killing off 36 out of 40 (90%) opposition power plays away from home.

Basement: The Gladiators remain in last place in the South Division with 21 points through 17 games, the fewest games played in the league. South Carolina leads the division with 30 points through 23 games, the most games played in the league.

Road Warriors: The Gladiators remain unbeaten on the road in regulation with a 5-0-2-0 record.

Approaching: Forward Brad Schell, who has 246 assists as a Gladiator, is just 4 helpers shy of becoming only the 2nd player in Gwinnett/Mobile history to reach 250 and 7 shy of the Gladiators/Mobile all-time record of 253 held by Jason Elders, who played with Mobile from 1995-2002.

Power: Forward Scott Mifsud currently sits tied for 7th with David Craievich, who played with Mobile from 1995-2000, in Mobile/Gwinnett history with 22 power play goals and needs just four more to move into a tie for 6th with Jim Jackson (2003-2009) and Jeff Campbell (2004-2008).

Last Week's Games: November 24, South Carolina 3, Gwinnett 2 - L The Gladiators twice rallied from one-goal deficits, but Spencer Carbery scored with 1:01 left in regulation to seal the win for the Stingrays. It was the first time all season the Gladiators had lost to a South Division team. Adam Berti finished with 2 assists to lead Gwinnett, and newly signed goaltender David Brown recorded 37 saves in his first game of the season. The Gladiators scored their first home power play goal since a November 7 loss to Kalamazoo.

November 26, Charlotte 6, Gwinnett 3 - L The Gwinnett Gladiators' home struggles continued Thursday evening, as they dropped their third consecutive game at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in a 6-3 loss to the Charlotte Checkers in front of 4,792 in their seventh annual Thanksgiving Night game. Daniel Tkaczuk recorded a hat trick and Randy Rowe finished with 3 points to lead the Checkers. Gwinnett made it close with two minutes remaining, but Charlotte netted an empty net goal to ice the win. Gwinnett gave up a season high of 5 goals in a period in the third.

November 28, Gwinnett 5, Charlotte 4 - W Adam Berti had a four-point night and Pat Galivan scored with 27 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Gladiators to victory and snap a 4-game home losing streak. Tom Zanoski set a new team record for goal from start of game, poking one through Ryan Munce at 10 seconds in. The Gladiators also set season high marks for shots in a period (26) and shots in a game (60). David Brown made 32 saves for his first win in Gwinnett. Charlotte's Julien Brouillette, Daniel Tkaczuk and Randy Rowe each finished with two points. Sam Roberts had his first 3-point night for the Gladiators.

November 29, Charlotte 5, Gwinnett 4 - OTL Tyler Doig scored on a penalty shot 2:55 into the overtime period to get the win for Charlotte. The Gladiators had goals from Denny, Zanoski, Galivan, and Siddall. Gwinnett owned a 4-2 lead with less than five minutes to play in the third period, but Charlotte's Randy Rowe scored a power play goal at 15:14 of the period, and David Marshall scored with just 12 seconds remaining to send it into overtime. The Gladiators remained unbeaten in regulation on the road. Gwinnett net minder David Brown faced a season high for the Gladiators of 50 shots.

The Gladiators return to Charlotte to play the Checkers for the fourth straight time before coming home to face South Division leading South Carolina Stingrays on Friday night. On Sunday, the Gladiator wrap up the week at home with an afternoon contest against the Checkers for the fifth game between the teams in two weeks.

The Gladiators continue their 7th season in the ECHL on Wednesday, December 2nd @ Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
