Reading Royals News Release
TOP NOTES OF THE WEEK
1. With two losses at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, this past week, the Royals' winless streak in Johnstown has been stretched to ten games (0-8-2) dating back to a 3-1 win on January 27, 2008. The Royals play two more regular season games in Johnstown this season-on Wednesday, December 16 and Friday, March 12. The two losses in Johnstown this week also extended Reading's road losing streak to a season high three games, dating back to the 4-0 loss on No- vember 21, 2009 in Florida. The Royals, who are currently 4-5-1-0 on the road, play nine of the team's next eleven games away from the Sovereign Center.
2. The Royals 4-2 win over the Trenton Devils extended the team's home winning streak to a season long three games, dating back to the 5-4 shootout win over South Carolina on November 8. That home win streak was snapped by the 4-2 loss to Johnstown at the Sovereign Center on Sunday. After starting 0-1-0-1 in the team's first two games at home this year, Reading had won six of the team's next seven games at the Sovereign Center until Sunday's loss. Reading is currently 6-3-0-1 at home.
3. Ben Gordon registered at least one point in all four games played by the Royals last week (2g-4a). Gordon, who currently leads the Royals with ten goals and twenty points, has picked up at least one point in eleven of his last thirteen games (8g-10a=18pts), a span during which he racked up seven multi-point performances. Gordon currently leads the team with 8 multi-point games. Gordon also engaged in the first fight of his pro career when he at Troy Schwab went at it on Wednesday night.
4. Daniel Steiner earned the first AHL call-up of his career (the vast majority of which has been spent in the Swiss NLA) on Saturday when he was loaned to the Adirondack Phantoms. Although he didn't register a point in the Phantoms 5-4 shootout win over Hershey, Steiner has picked up at least on point in nine of the thirteen games that he's played for Reading and currently leads the team with fourteen assists. Steiner's six multi-point games for Reading is second best on the team.
5. Ryan Cruthers is currently riding a four game point streak (2g-3a=5pts), and he has picked up at least a point in ten of his last eleven games with the team (5g-11a). During that time span, he has registered five multi-point games.
6. Charlie Kronschnabel scored what proved to be the game winning goal in Friday's 4-2 win over Trenton. Kronschnabel's last game winner for the Royals also came against the Devils-almost two years ago-when he broke a two-two tie with 1:39 remaining in regulation at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey, on December 12, 2007. Kronschnabel scored his fifth goal for the Royals-the team's third goal that night-in the 6-3 loss in Johnstown on Saturday.
7. Danick Bouchard broke a nine game goal scoring drought when he bagged the Royals' second goal of the game-and his team leading fourth power play goal of the year-9:45 into Friday's win over Trenton. Bouchard also picked up an assist in that game-and a pair of assists in Saturday's 6-3 loss in Johnstown-to pick up his third and fourth multi-point games of the year.
8. Goaltender Matt Dalton picked up his third win of the season when he stopped 40 of the 42 shots he faced in Reading's 4-2 win over the Trenton Devils on Friday. This marked the second time this year that Dalton has stopped forty or more shots and held the opposition to just two goals-the other was a 42 save performance in a 5-2 win over Florida on November 20.
9. The power play goal by Danick Bouchard at the 9:45 mark of the first period in Friday's 4-2 win over Trenton snapped a streak of twenty consecutive power play chances without a goal, dating back to the first period of the Royals' 5-2 win over the Florida Everblades on November 20. Over the last six games, the Royals' PP has gone four for twenty-eight, which translates into a 14.8% scoring ratio. Overall, the Royals PP is 17 for 109, which translates into a 14.3% scoring ratio (18th in the league).
CLOSING NOTES
1. After winning the first two games of the season against the Johnstown Chiefs, the Royals have now dropped the last four in a row to Johnstown. Over the two past seasons, the Royals have now compiled a record of 3-12-1 against the Chiefs, and in the 78 regular season games played between these two teams, Reading now has an overall record of 33-38-7.
2. The Royals 6-3 loss to the Johnstown Chiefs lastWednesday marked the first time this season that Reading had lost back-to-back games in regulation. (Reading had been defeated 4-0 by Florida in the team's prior game.) The Royals also lost back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday this past week-and are currently riding a two game losing streak.
3. Ryan Cruthers' goal 1:06 into Friday's win over the Trenton Devils is the quickest goal into a game for the Royals this season. (The team record in this regard was set by Cail MacLean when he scored ten seconds into the Royals 2-1 win over the Peo- ria Rivermen at the Sovereign Center on April 3, 2005). That goal marked Cruthers' first 'first goal' of the season for Reading. (The Royals have scored the game's first goal seven times this season-and compiled a record of 5-0-1-1 in those games- and seven different players have scored those goals).
4. The Royals penalty kill held the Chiefs off the board (0-2) in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Chiefs. To that point, the Royals' PK had given up at least one PPGA in six consecutive games. Over the last seven games, Reading's PK has killed 28 of the 38 power plays it has faced, which is a 73.7% kill ratio. Overall this season, the Royals are killing penalties at a 77.5% ratio (79-102), which is 18th in the league.
5. When defenseman Rob Kwiet racked up a pair of assists in Friday's game- which was his first as a Royal-he became the fiftieth player in Royals' history to register an assist in his first game with the team. Forty-one players have scored a goal in their first game as a Royal.
6. Greg Scott registered his first goal as a pro when he scored the Royals' first goal with 1:11 remaining in the first period of Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Chiefs. Scott's linemate, Robert Slaney, assisted on that goal to pick up his first point as a Royal.
7. The next three games for the Royals are all against the Trenton Devils. Reading has won all three games played between these two teams thus far this season (and they play eleven more times this year). Over the nine year history of the Royals, the team has a dead-on .500 record against Trenton: 41-41-10.
