Woollard Erupts, Corpus Christi Sends Amarillo Packing

Corpus Christi, TX 2/4/10 - On the back of six unanswered goals, the Corpus Christi IceRays beat the Amarillo Gorillas 6-2 Thursday night.

After several scoring chances on each end of the ice, Amarillo took advantage midway through the period. Defenseman Shaun Arvai slapped a shot from the center point and the rebound went right to forward Anthony Battaglia who roofed his eighth goal on the year. With less than three minutes remaining in the first period, captain Gordon Bell deflected an Andrew Smale shot for his eighth goal, giving the Gorillas a 2-0 lead after one period. The entertaining first frame included a penalty shot save from goaltender Mike Brown on Ryan Garbutt while Jason Chafe gathered a one-punch knockout on IceRay forward R.G. Flath.

Corpus Christi countered with three unanswered markers in the middle frame. Rookie Ryan Garbutt scored while veteran forward Chad Woollard earned two goals to give the IceRays the 3-2 lead.

The IceRays continued to send shots past Amarillo netminder Mike Brown in the third, as Jereme Tendler struck twice and Chad Woollard notched his hat-trick goal with less than six minutes left. Final score Corpus Christi 6 Amarillo 2.

Anthony Battaglia's first period goal was his first road marker since November 17th at Odessa...With an assist, Stuart MacRae extends his road point streak to 5 games...Adding an assist on Battaglia's first goal, Joe Guenther has 4 points over his last 4 contests.

Amarillo continues their two-game South Texas road trip Saturday, February 6th versus the Laredo Bucks. The game broadcast will start at 7:20pm CST and can be followed on 1440 AM ESPN Radio and CHL-TV. Fans will have an opportunity to win a Jason Beeman autograph puck during the second period of the game broadcast by answering a trivia question on the Gorillas' Facebook page.
