
Eagles Bounce Past Jacks, 5-3

(Odessa, TX) - Mike Mole stopped 40 shots for the Colorado Eagles as they topped the Odessa Jackalopes on Friday night, 5-3, at the Ector County Coliseum. The win snapped Odessa's eleven-game unbeaten streak, and dropped their record to 35-7-4.
Colorado's Jim Jackson and Odessa's Mike Ramsay each scored a pair of goals in the game, but Steve Haddon's third period goal at 9:14 proved to be the game winner. An awkward bounce from the left corner boards gave Haddon the scoring opportunity as he was alone in front of the net for the tap-in.
Jackson's second goal started the third period scoring at 9:02. Haddon's goal then made it 4-1 Colorado. Sebastien Thinel gave Odessa a fighting chance when his one-timer from the right circle went in at 14:28. The Jackalopes pulled the goalie after earning a power play, but Riley Nelson put an empty-net goal on the board at 18:39 to make it 5-2. Ramsay scored his second goal with just 36 seconds left in the game for Odessa's final goal.
The game's scoring didn't being until 6:27 of the second period when Ramsay made it a 1-0 lead with a power play goal for his 22nd of the season. Ramsay tapped home a centering feed from Kory Karlander in the right wing corner. Jackson knotted the game at 1-1 with a wrist shot from the center of the Odessa blue line that beat a screened Joel Martin at 11:08. Kevin Ulanski then made it 2-1 for the Eagles with a shorthanded, breakaway goal at 18:47. Martin made the first save and Ulanski tapped home his own rebound. Colorado led entering the intermission.
Neither team scored in the first period but it was an entertaining one as the two teams combined for 38 shots on goal.
Joel Martin finished with 35 saves in the loss for Odessa. Ramsay's two goals now give him the team lead with 23 on the season. The Jacks fall to 0-1-1 against the Eagles with season.
The Jacks and Eagles play game two of their weekend set on Saturday at 7:05 PM. It's Juha Toivonen Figurine Giveaway night at the Ector County Coliseum. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM.
