Wichita Thunder News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA- The Wichita Thunder defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-2 at the Century Tel Center on Friday night. After a high-octane, but scoreless first period, the Thunder potted the first goal of the night at 14:32 in the second. Utilizing several sharp lateral passes, Steve Makway found Joel Hanson positioned to the right of the crease who redirected the puck past John DeCaro to give Wichita a 1-0 lead. At 17:07 in the second, Tomas Klempa tossed the puck from the left corner towards the crease, allowing Shane Foster to tip it into the net.

Travis Clayton cut the lead in half, deflecting Dave Pszenyczny's shot from the left faceoff circlepast the right of Scott Campbell at 5:56. The Thunder though, regained a two-goal advantage at 11:18 on a goal from Jim Jorgensen. The All-Star defenseman grabbed a loose puck down the left boards after just being let free from the penalty box and fired on DeCaro. A bouncing rebound came right back to Jorgensen who forced it through DeCaro's five-hole for the score. The Mudbugs again trimmed the lead, this time with an extra attacker, when Tyrel Lucas played several screens in front of Campbell from the slot with just 76 seconds left in the game. Wichita took it's third two-goal lead of the night with 2.1 seconds to go on an empty net goal from Tomas Klempa.

Campbell earned the win, saving 38 of 40. DeCaro was 30 of 33 in the loss. Wichita went 1 for 2 on the power play while going 3 for 3 on the penalty kill. Kelly and Makway each had two assists.
