Brahmas extend margin in south with win over 'Rays

Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - Texas played the role of the âcomeback kids' Friday night in Corpus Christi as they defeated the IceRays 3-2 despite trailing the first two periods. The Brahmas hold a three point edge over Laredo for third in the Southern Conference.
The Southern Conference battle picked up at the 10:38 marker in the first when from the right point a streaking Chad Woollard, who leads the CHL in goals, fired the puck on Brett Jaeger for the 1-0 Corpus lead and his 28th of the season. The Brahmas found themselves in the penalty box four times in the opening frame, but were able to keep the game tight with their strong PK unit.
Chris Richards on the backhand gave the IceRays the two goal lead in the second, tucking the puck in under Jaeger's pads at the 7:15 mark. It would be a tall order for Texas to find their way back into the game with forward Tyler Skworchinski serving two minutes for a hooking call. But forward Jordan Cameron was able to take advantage of a tripped up Justin Quenneville who fell into his own goaltender, Kevin Beech to score a team leading fourth shorthanded goal of the season and put Texas back within a single shot. Assists were from Jason Deitsch and Kevin McLeod.
A shot from the blueline originated from Nathan Perrott was deflected and redirected past Beech by Grant Jacobsen to even the game in the third period. With just 93 ticks remaining in the game a puck left at the right point by Skworchinski for Deitsch found its way to the back of net off a snapshot for Texas' first lead of the game. In efforts to comeback, Corpus pulled Beech for the extra attacker, but the Brahmas remained defensively sound and were able to pull out the win on the road. The victory ended Texas' six game road losing streak.
Texas hits the road for a 7:05 PM faceoff tomorrow night when they face the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. All the action can be seen on CHL-TV. The Brahmas return home at the NYTEX Sports Centre on Friday, February 12 when they host the Laredo Bucks at 7:05 PM. All fans in attendance can enjoy $1 Cokes for the evening.
