BOSSIER CITY, LA - Rookie goaltender Scott Campbell stopped 38 shots as the Wichita Thunder knocked off the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-2 Friday night at the CenturyTel Center. The loss ended the Mudbugs' five-game home winning streak and snapped a string of 13 straight regular season wins over the Thunder.

Travis Clayton and Tyrel Lucas scored the goals for Bossier-Shreveport, who outshot Wichita 40-34 but were held off the scoreboard until the third period. John DeCaro made 30 saves, but saw his personal four-game win streak come to an end.

The first period ended in a scoreless stalemate, although the Mudbugs hit one post and created a few other quality scoring chances. Wichita held a 13-8 shot advantage after 20 minutes.

After both teams missed on one powerplay chance, the Thunder finally opened the scoring when Joel Hanson knocked in a powerplay goal at 14:32 of the second period to give Wichita a 1-0 lead. Shane Foster added to the advantage less than three minutes later, throwing a puck toward the net from the corner that caromed off DeCaro and into the net to make it a 2-0 Thunder lead after two periods.

The ‘Bugs finally cracked Campbell at 5:56 of the third when Dave Pszenyczny's long shot was deflected into the net by Travis Clayton, cutting the lead to 2-1. Wichita got the two-goal advantage back when Jim Jorgenson sprinted out of the penalty box on an odd-man rush and scored on his own rebound to make it 3-1 Thunder. Tyrel Lucas got the Mudbugs back within one with 1:06 to go, scoring with the extra attacker on, but Tomas Klempa notched an empty netter in the final seconds to provide the final margin for Wichita.

The Mudbugs missed on four powerplay opportunities, while the Thunder finished 1 for 2. Campbell earned his fifth win of the season with the 38-save effort. DeCaro fell to 14-9-1 with the loss.

Bossier-Shreveport will be right back on the CenturyTel Center ice tomorrow night to close out a five-game homestand against the Texas Brahmas at 7:05 pm.
