Wausau Woodchucks News Release
WAUSAU, WI - Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader between the Wisconsin Woodchucks and Green Bay Booyah was slated to be seven innings. But it took eight to decide a winner between the teams.
After two intentional walks and a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the eighth, pinch hitter Ben McCabe scored Jacob Schoenvogel from third base on a sacrifice fly as the Chucks earned a 3-2 walk-off win. Schoenvogel had begun the frame as the automatic runner on second.
Colin Millar struck out all Booyah batters in the top half of the inning to set up the win.
The Chucks improve to 34-21 and 13-7 in the second half of the Northwoods League season.
Green Bay tacked on the opening run in the third with a sacrifice fly. The Woodchucks tied the matchup in the bottom half of the inning with a Jacob Burke RBI single, scoring Ryan Sepede.
An Anthony Catalano solo home run made it 2-1 in the fourth.
The Booyah tied the contest in the sixth on a fielder's choice. Wisconsin avoided further damage, with Green Bay stranding the bases loaded in the inning.
Thursday's game became a doubleheader after a rainout between the teams at Athletic Park on July 14.
