Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters won their fifth game in a row, and third in a row over Kenosha, in a 2-1 final on Thursday.

The game was a brisk 2 hours and 32 minutes thanks to strong starting pitching by both sides. Wyatt Rush (5-2, 4.43) outdueled Kenosha's Dalton Wiggins (2-2, 3.93) to snap his three-game skid without a win. He pitched seven innings for the third time this year, allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out four.

After going down in order the first trip through the lineup, the offense gave him a run to work with in the fourth. Tito Flores doubled with two outs and Chris Monroe brought him home with a hard-hit ball through the infield. Kenosha tied it in the sixth, but Monroe led the push for the lead in the seventh. He singled to lead off and Crews Taylor doubled him home to retake the lead. That's the third game in a row with an RBI hit for Taylor.

Morgan Lunceford pitched a scoreless eighth, working around a leadoff walk. He got the Northwoods League leader in average Justin Janas to flyout with the tying run on second to end the inning. John Beuckelaere pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts for the save (2), his first as the new closer.
