Wausau Woodchucks News Release
Wausau, WIS - The Wisconsin Woodchucks shut-out the Battle Creek Bombers 7-0, as the Woodchucks' pitching staff only surrendered one Bombers' hit.
The Woodchucks struck first in a big way in their first at-bat and never looked back. Brendon Hayden hit a bloop single to left field that brought home Jake Jeffries on the play. CJ Chatham then followed Hayden with a double to the right-center field gap to bring home Paul DeJong. The scoring continued when Jake Scudder hit a ground-ball to third base and Conor Panas' wild throw to first allowed Hayden and Chatham to score giving the Woodchucks an early 4-0 lead.
The Woodchucks continued to break open the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Paul DeJong hit his fourth home run of the season to give the Woodchucks a 5-0 lead.
The Woodchucks tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 7-0.
Matt Lambert loaded the bases in the top of the first inning but struck out Sebastian Diaz to get out of the jam. After that Lambert faced the next 14 batters without letting anyone on base. Lambert making a spot-start for the Woodchucks pitched six innings with five strikeouts and surrendered the only Bombers' hit in the game.
The Woodchucks will begin interleague play tomorrow when the Duluth Huskies make their way to Athletic Park. First pitch is set for 5:05 pm with gates opening at 4:05 pm.
