Anchors' bats awaken in win versus Stingers

Willmar, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors took the first game of a three-game set against the Willmar Stingers Friday night by a score of 10-4 at Bill Taunton Stadium. Alexandria's record is now 3-8.

Jordan Lee started the game off with a single against Willmar starter TJ Whidby and moved to second on a fielder's choice off the bat of Craig Nenning. Kris Goodman moved Lee to third on another fielder's choice and a passed ball scored Lee to put the Anchors ahead 1-0.

In the top of the third, Lee got the inning started with a bang as he homered deep to right field making the score 2-0. Nenning followed with a base hit and moved to second on a Goodman single. With two outs, Roman Collins drove in Nenning with a single putting Alexandria up 3-0.

The Stingers got on the board against the Anchors' starter Onas Farfan in the bottom of the fourth. Nick Rivera drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on a Reegan Fowler double. After a pop out, Sam Hall reached on an error which brought in Rivera to close the deficit their deficit to 3-1.

The Blue Anchors answered quickly in the top of the fifth. Lee led the inning off again with a single and moved to third on a Nenning single. Lee stole third and scored his third run of the night on a Goodman groundout. Aaron Gretz reached on a Reegan error which brought home Nenning. Collins singled to put two on for Ryan Busch who doubled to left bringing in Gretz and Collins and at the end of the inning, Alexandria was ahead 7-1.

Troy Kuhn singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth and eventually came around to score on a Frankie Rios groundout to shrink the Anchors lead to 7-2.

In the Anchors' half of the eighth, the game was put out of hand. Hayden Cleveland was brought in to pitch and with one gone, Alex Fink reached on an error. A walk to Dylan Dresel put two on for Lee who doubled in Fink. Nenning hit a double to right-center bringing in Dresel and Lee giving Alexandria a 10-2 lead.

Willmar put together one last rally in the bottom of the ninth against Robbie Mouton by scoring two runs with two outs but Mouton was able to get Kuhn to groundout and the Anchors won 10-4.

Farfan finished the night with six innings pitched and two runs allowed, one earned, on six hits and a walk while striking out four. Mouton recorded his first save of 2014 by pitching the final three innings giving up two runs on three hits, a walk and three punch outs.

Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Jordan Lee (LF) - In his second game of the season, Lee was a spark plug to the Anchors' offense as he finished with four hits in five trips to the plate with four runs scored and two RBI.
