
Woodchucks Represented Well in 2014 MLB Draft

Wausau, WIS - Five former Wisconsin Woodchucks have been drafted through the first two days of the 2014 MLB Draft.
Four out of the five players selected in the Draft played for the Woodchucks in their record breaking 2012 season. The team won 43 games, the most ever in the team's 20 year history.
The first former Woodchucks taken in the draft was JD Davis in the 3rd round by the Houston Astros. In his 2012 season with the Woodchucks, Davis hit for a .344 batting average with three home runs and 26 runs batted in. Davis also saw time on the mound for the Woodchucks as he started five games, finishing the season with a 4-0 record with a 2.10 ERA and striking out 33 batters.
Davis' 2012 teammate Skyler Ewing was selected in the 6th round by the San Francisco Giants. Ewing was second on the team with a .347 batting average including six home runs and 22 runs batted in. Ewing was just recently named to the Houston All-Regional Team after hitting .417 in the regional for the Rice Owls.
Two-time returning Woodchuck Jake Peter was drafted in the 7th round by the Chicago White Sox. Peter played for the Woodchucks in both the 2012 and 2013 summers. In the 2013 season, Peter hit for a .314 batting average in ten games with two doubles and eight runs batted in before leaving the Woodchucks to try out for Team USA.
Brandon Cogswell was also drafted in the 7th round, being selected by the Oakland Athletics. Cogswell hit for a .233 batting average with one home run and one double in his short time with the Woodchucks in 2012.
Matt Tellor, a Northwoods League All-Star in 2013, was selected in the 10th round by the Atlanta Braves. Tellor, known for his power, was a contestant in the 2013 Northwoods League Home Run Derby and finished the season with eight home runs, 15 doubles and 43 runs batted in while hitting for a .294 batting average.
