
Blue Anchors split series with Stingers

Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors lost Saturday night to the Willmar Stingers at Knute Nelson Memorial Park by a score of 8-2. The loss puts the Anchors at 3-9.
The Stingers jumped on the board early against starter Zach Muckenhirn in the top of the second. Reegan Fowler led off the inning with a single and the next two batters reached to load the bases with no outs. Two straight sac flies scored two runs and the Stingers were ahead 2-0.
WIllmar's lead was extended in the top of the third when Sean Beesley singled with one out and stole third. He later scored on a fielder's choice to increase their lead to 3-0.
The game was broken open by the Stingers in the top of the fifth as they batted around to score five runs. It was highlighted by a two-out double by Frankie Rios which scored two and made the game 8-0.
The Anchors rally was started too late as they didn't score until the eighth. Jordan Lee singled to start the frame and went to second on a Craig Nennig base hit. A passed ball moved both into scoring position and a two-out double by Ryan Busch drove in both runners making the score 8-2.
Muckenhirn (1-2) took the loss lasting just 4.2 innings give up eight runs on ten hits, three alms and just one strikeout. Sean Stutzman made his debut and pitched 1.1 innings striking out three and allowing one base hit and a walk. Ryan Froom threw two shutout innings giving up just a walk and a hit with three punch outs. Tyler Brekke threw the ninth and gave up a base hit with two batters struck out.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Craig Nennig (SS) - The Ohio State product had a good day at the plate finishing the night with two hits and a walk while scoring a run.
