
McDonnell Strong, Bullpen Steady in 3-1 Win over Bullfrogs

The Madison Mallards (9-3) handed the Green Bay Bullfrogs (7-5) their fifth loss of the season and continued their win streak, now at six, tonight at the "Duck Pond" before 6,737.
Mallards starting pitcher Rob McDonnell (Illinois) received his first win of the year, moving to 1-1 after shutting out the Bullfrogs in 5.2 innings of work. He gave up one hit and struck out five while walking three batters. Bullfrog starter Mike Ellenbest (Saginaw Valley State) lasted only 3.2 innings, letting up three runs on seven hits and walking four to drop to 1-1 on the season.
Designated hitter Pete Alonso (Florida) went 2-3 for the Mallards, driving in two runs and recording two singles. Alonso is batting an astounding .533 in the last three games with one home run, eight RBI and eight hits. The Bullfrogs one run came off Mallards reliever AJ Bogucki (North Carolina) in the seventh, but their offense was shut down by Tim Black (Central Michigan) in the eighth and ninth. Black struck out one in 1.1 innings of work to record his second save in two nights.
The Mallards travel to Battle Creek, Michigan tomorrow to play the first game of a two game series against the Battle Creek Bombers (4-7) at 4:05 pm.
They return to the "Duck Pond" Tuesday, June 10th to play the Lakeshore Chinooks at 7:05 pm. That night is Ho-Chunk Gaming Night and will feature a Ho-Chunk Plinko Board and Ho-Chunk Playing Card Giveaway in the Great Dane Duck Blind. It is also Valpak Great Outdoors Night.
