
'Wolves Win Rain Shortened Game

The Erie SeaWolves made a big splash out of two innings, prevailing 10-5 over the Altoona Curve (8-14) in a rain-shortened six inning game on Monday night at Jerry Uht Park.
The SeaWolves delivered the game's first punch in the first inning. Brandon Douglas walked with one out. He wouldn't have to wait long as Rob Brantly brought him home on an RBI double. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Jordan Lennerton got Brantly in with an RBI single. Afterwards, Erie continued to frustrate Altoona starter Nathan Baker as Ben Guez got on base on an error by catcher Tony Sanchez. After John Murrian got a base hit, Michael Rockett came up brought home two on a base hit plating a pair for a 5-0 lead.
The Curve would answer in the top of the second with Sanchez getting on base with a single, followed by Ramon Cabrera reaching first on a walk. Jeremy Farrell tripled home both baserunners making it 5-2.
Altoona would continue to climb back in the fourth inning with Sanchez taking the first pitch of the frame and turning it into a lead-off single. Cabrera knocked in Sanchez on an RBI triple that. Cabrera scored on a wild pitch making it 5-4.
The Howlers would strike back in the fifth inning with another five-run frame. Lennerton led off with single, Bryan Pounds walked and Murrian singled to load the bases. After Altoona made a pitching change. Rockett grounded out, plating Lennerton. Following a Jaime Johnson walk, Niuman Romero came up huge with a bases-loaded, three RBI triple. Brandon Douglas would close out the inning with an RBI single that brought in Romero, giving the SeaWolves a 10-4 lead.
The Curve responded in the sixth with a lead-off double from Matt Curry. A sacrifice fly from Sanchez and Cabrera's sacrifice groundout got Curry in to make the score 10-5 in favor of Erie.
The game was called due to inclement weather in the top of the seventh with the 'Wolves earning the win.
SeaWolves starter Zack Segovia (2-2) got the win, going all six inning while giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Nathan Baker (2-3) took the loss for Altoona, going 4 1/3 innings while giving up 8 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits, 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
