
R-Phils Cloyd Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

(Reading, Pa.)---Reading Phillies starting pitcher Tyler Cloyd was named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week by the Eastern League on Monday for the period of April 23rd through April 29th.
In a pair of appearances last week, Cloyd went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 13.0 innings pitched. The Nebraska native made his first start of the week on Tuesday at FirstEnergy Stadium against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. During the start, Cloyd struck out five while spreading five hits over seven shutout innings in the R-Phils' 6-0 win. Cloyd improved to 3-0 with the win, and 4-0 on the season including his start with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (AAA). On Sunday, the 24-year old pitched six shutout innings and gave up one hit in Reading's 4-2 win at Portland.
Cloyd led all Eastern League pitchers in strikeouts (12) last week and also ranked among the weekly leaders in ERA (0.00-tied 1st), innings pitched (13.0-2nd), WHIP (0.69-6th) and batting average against (.136-8th). He is currently tied for third in the league in wins (3) and is ranked sixth in ERA (1.80).
Earlier this season, Cloyd was named International League Pitcher of the Week after the first week of the season following his performance as a member of Lehigh Valley's roster. In his only start at the Triple-A level, Cloyd hurled six perfect innings and eight strikeouts in the team's 3-0 Opening Day win. Cloyd also was selected as Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 5th through April 15th.
Cloyd was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 18th round of the 2008 draft out of Bellevue East High School in Nebraska. Last season, he went 9-7 between Clearwater (A+) and Reading with a 2.77 ERA.
