'Wolves Take Series From Aeros

The SeaWolves completed a series win over the Akron Aeors with a 5-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. The Erie pitching staff allowed just one unearned run over the final 27 innings of the series. The ‘Wovles have now won three straight.

The SeaWolves broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning against Akron starter T.J. McFarland. With two outs, John Murrian singled and Jamie Johnson doubled puttung runners on second and third for Brandon Douglas. Douglas walked loading the bases. Rawley Bishop worked a 3-2 count before an eventual bases loaded walk, plating Murrian for a 1-0 lead. Bryan Pounds followed with a two-run double to left for a 3-0 ‘Wolves edge.

Erie added to its lead in the sixth. Deik Scram led off and was hit by a pitch. Scram stole second and scored on a out-out Justin Henry single for a 4-0 lead.

The ‘Wolves added an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning, Reliever Rob Bryson walked Cale Iorg and Henry starting the inning. The runners advanced on a wild pitch and Iorg scored on a Johnson sacrifice fly to right for a 5-0 Erie lead.

The Aeros got on the board in the eighth innings, snapped the Erie pitching staff's streak of 25 consecutive scoreless innings. With two outs and a man on, Juan Diaz reached on an infield single and a throwing error allowed both he and Cristo Arnal to reach scoring position. Michel Hernandez singled home Arnal making it a 5-1 game in favor of Erie.

Erie spot starter Rob Waite (4-3) tossed five shutout innings picking up the win. He allowed two hits with two walks and a strikeout.

The SeaWolves resume play on Tuesday night against the New Britain Rock Cats (Minnesota Twins)...7:05 First Pitch.
