Last Time Out
One night after allowing a five-run lead to slip away, the Harrisburg Senators bounced right back and beat Binghamton 5-3 in front of 6,825 fans at Metro Bank Park. Tanner Roark won for a second straight start pitching into the seventh inning. Roark allowed three runs on just four hits and moved to 6-7 on the season. Tyler Moore drove in a pair with a double in the first which was followed by a run scoring double off the bat of Bryce Harper, giving the Sens a 3-0 first inning lead. Harrisburg would go on to load the bases in the first, but didn't score further. They also loaded the bases with one out in the second inning, but didn't score. Binghamton broke through in the sixth on a two-run single off the bat of Allan Dykstra to bring the BMets to within 3-2 in the game. After Tanner Roark led the bottom of the sixth off with a single, Chris Rahl followed with a two-run home run to left giving the Senators a 5-2 lead. Binghamton scored a run off Roark in the seventh inning but that was it. Pat McCoy came on with one-out in the seventh and struck out both batters he faced. Rafael Martin pitched two innings and struck out Raul Reyes with the tying run at first and two outs in the ninth for his sixth save on the season. Rahl and Leonard Davis had three hits each for Harrisburg. It was the second straight game Davis had three hits. Tyler Moore, Bryce Harper, and Chris McConnell all had two hits for the Senators.
Today's Game
The Senators and Binghamton Mets play the final game of their four-game series today at Metro Bank Park. The Senators have taken two of the first three games of this series and seven of the nine games played between the teams this season. Including today, Harrisburg has seven games left against National League opponents (1 Binghamton, 3 @ Reading, 3 vs. Richmond).
Odds and Ends
Entering play today, the Senators are 1st in the league in HRs (108) and are tied for 2nd in triples (31). They are 108 x 141 (77%) in stolen base attempts. Tyler Moore is 1st in HRs (24), 2nd in RBIs (72), 2nd in extra base hits (56), 1st in total bases (219), 4th in slugging (.541) and tied for 2nd in games (105). Shairon Martis is 8th in the league in ERA (3.36). As a team they are 1st in Ks (910), have allowed the fewest walks (280), are 2nd in the league in saves (34) and lead league in shutouts (10). Derek Norris is the leading catching in the Eastern League in caught stealing efficiency (.403). They have not been shut out since losing 8-0 to Trenton on 4/17 in game one of a doubleheader. Harrisburg has had six consecutive winning months entering July. They are 16-15 in July with two games remaining. Over the previous six months, they are 84-56 (July 2010 17-12; August 2010 17-10; Sept 2010 5-2; April 2011 11-10; May 2011 18-10; and June 2011 16- 12).
Remaining Schedule
The Senators have a somewhat favorable schedule in that they play 17 of their final 27 games at home. Including today, they have 34 games remaining with 18 of the 34 at Metro Bank Park.
Roster
With the addition of Eric Komatsu, the Senators have had 48 different players in uniform this season. Four of those 48 players have been big league rehabs. They have 12 players on their roster that have been in Harrisburg the entire season. Seven players that started here are in AAA and one is in the big leagues (Ryan Mattheus).
2011 Eastern League All-Stars
Six Senators were named with five participating in the All-Star game. RH Erik Arnesen (1ip 3k), OF Archie Gilbert (1 x 2), INF Tyler Moore (0 x 5), RH Brad Peacock, OF Bill Rhinehart (1 x 3 2b rbi r) and RHP Hassan Pena (1ip 1h 2k).
XM Futures Game
The Harrisburg Senators had three participants in the game on July 10 at Chase Field in Phoenix and they were RHP Brad Peacock, OF Bryce Harper and manager Tony Beasley was one of the coaches for the US team.
