Chicago Wolves News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves surrendered two power-play goals and couldn't crack Oklahoma City Barons goaltender Martin Gerber until late in the third period as they fell, 2-1, at the Allstate Arena Sunday night.
Center Jared Ross scored the lone goal for Chicago (24-20-2-3), which saw its three-game winning streak snapped with the loss.
"We fought hard but we were definitely out of gas tonight," said Wolves Head Coach Don Lever. "We looked good the first 10 minutes but then the three games in three nights caught up to us."
A power-play opportunity early in the second period helped the Barons take a 1-0 lead. Right wing Colin McDonald caught the puck bouncing through the crease and swung to push it past Wolves goaltender Drew MacIntyre at 5:50 of the middle frame.
Oklahoma City (25-16-2-4) pulled ahead, 2-0, at 7:14 of the third period with a second power-play tally when center Brad Moran took a pass from left wing Alexandre Giroux and flicked a shot past MacIntyre from below the near circle.
MacIntyre (7-5-1) posted 20 saves for Chicago.
Ross got the Wolves on the board with 2:45 remaining in the third period when he scooped the puck up out of a scrum in front of the net and roofed a shot past Gerber and into the top right corner of the net.
Gerber (16-10-2) stopped 21 of 22 shots for the Barons.
The Wolves travel to Oklahoma City for a rematch with the Barons at Cox Convention Center on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
