LOVES PARK, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves dropped a 4-0 decision to the Rockford IceHogs at Carlson Ice Arena in Loves Park, Ill., Wednesday night.

Rockford netminder Joe Palmer (1-0-0) thwarted all 20 Chicago shots to collect the win.

After battling through nearly two periods of scoreless hockey, Rockford (1-0-0-0) cracked the deadlock when Wolves goaltender Kris Mayotte went behind the goal to play the puck but lost control and it ricocheted into the open net with 28 seconds remaining in the second frame. IceHogs defenseman Dave Phillips was credited with the goal.

Rockford made its lead two on the power play three minutes into the third period when defenseman Jason Lepine beat Mayotte, top shelf, with a shot from the top of the slot.

Mayotte (0-1-0) stopped 13 shots in 32:14 of action, while Kevin Armstrong stopped 13 of 13 shots he faced in 27:42 between the pipes for the Wolves.

The IceHogs added a third tally, 5:50 into the third period, when left wing Daniel Michalsky took a pass from right wing Ryan Smith and fired it into the top corner of the net.

Lepine added his second of the night at 16:38 of the final frame to give Rockford a 4-0 lead.

Chicago (0-1-0-0) will continue its preseason slate in Milwaukee on Friday night when they visit Wilson Ice Arena to take on the Admirals at 7 p.m. The Wolves will host the Admirals in a rematch at the Hoffman Estates Community Center and Ice Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m.
