Four Assigned to Providence

Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, the 2008-09 Atlantic Division champions of the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have released four players from their main training camp. Forward Jamie Arniel, defensemen Andrew Bodnarchuk and Jeff Penner, and goaltender Kevin Regan have all been assigned to Providence. The P-Bruins now have 25 players on their training camp roster, including 13 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies.
Arniel, Bodnarchuk, Penner and Regan all enjoyed time in Providence during the 2008-09 season.
Arniel, 19, joined the P-Bruins late in 2008-09 after completing his fourth full season in the Ontario Hockey League, the last as a member of the Sarnia Sting. After a career-best 32 goals and 68 points for Sarnia, Arniel registered one point, a goal, in eight Calder Cup playoff games for Providence in his first professional experience. The rookie was drafted by Boston 97th overall in round four of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Bodnarchuk, 21, spent last season as a rookie in Providence, collecting 10 points (g, 9a) in 62 regular season games before adding two assists in 15 postseason contests. Prior to turning pro, the defenseman suited up for 196 regular season games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, captaining the Halifax Moose while totaling 43 points (10g, 33a). Bodnarchuk was selected by Boston 128th overall in round five of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Penner, 22, did not miss a game as a first-year pro in 2008-09, appearing in all 80 regular season games and 16 playoff games. On his way to winning Providence's Plus-Minus Award with a plus-22 rating, the blue-liner racked up 28 points (10a, 18a). Penner caught offensive fire in the postseason, adding 11 points (6g, 5a). His iron-man consistency on the ice made him the seventh player in P-Bruins team history to appear in all 80 games. Off the ice, Penner was named Providence's Community Service Award winner and the club's American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year.
Regan, 25, split time between Providence and the ECHL's Alaska Aces and Gwinnett Gladiators in his first full season as a pro. Following four standout seasons for the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, Regan posted a 13-10-2 overall record, one shutout, a 2.75 goals-against-average and a .905 save percentage last year. The netminder was 9-7-2 in 21 games for the P-Bruins, showing a 2.99 GAA and a .896 save percent. Regan was taken 277th overall by Boston in round nine of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
