Cleveland Monsters News Release
The Lake Erie Monsters are bringing a new TV schedule and a new voice to the team in their third season, the team announced Wednesday. For the second straight year, FOX Sports Ohio and MY43 WUAB will carry 10 games apiece in 2009-10, beginning with the home opener at Quicken Loans Arena on October 10th. FOX Sports Ohio is the official Cable Home of the Monsters, while MY43 WUAB is the official Home of Lake Erie Monsters Hockey Over the Air Telecasts this season.
Ben Holden, the 2007 and 2008 Michigan Emmy Award Winner for Best Sports Play-by-Play/On Camera Talent, will step in as the new voice of the Monsters this season. He replaces John Michael, who got "called up" by FSO earlier this summer to cover the Columbus Blue Jackets.
For the third consecutive season, ESPN 850 WKNR will serve as the Monsters flagship radio station. Holden will call all 80 games in 2009-10 on WKNR, including the 20 television broadcasts that will be simulcast on the station.
"We are thrilled to continue our partnerships with FOX Sports Ohio, MY43 WUAB and ESPN 850 WKNR," said Kerry Bubolz, President of the Monsters. "By broadcasting our games on both television and radio, we will be able to bring the excitement and action of Monsters hockey to an even larger fan base. This is great news for every member of the quickly-growing Monsters family."
"We are excited to continue our play-by-play partnership with the Lake Erie Monsters," said ESPN Cleveland General Manager Keith Williams. "Through this multi-platform sports marketing relationship, we have been able to build a successful partnership with a great organization in Cleveland and we're thrilled to continue this partnership and further Cleveland's passion for hockey in the coming year."
Holden has most recently worked for CBS College Sports Network/CSTV, ESPNU/ESPN Regional Television and Comcast Sports. He has provided commentary for multiple NCAA Hockey Midwest Regionals, NCAA Women's Hockey and Field Hockey Championship Games, various NCAA soccer, softball and hockey conference tournaments, as well as other events in the Big Ten, MAC, CCHA and at Notre Dame. Holden also co-hosted the 2008 and 2009 Hobey Baker Award Show.
"I am very excited for the chance to work with a first-class organization like the Monsters," said Holden. "It is a great opportunity, both personally and professionally. I am looking forward to the season and to meeting all the great Cleveland hockey fans."
