Chicago Wolves News Release
MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Chicago Wolves' nine-game road trip ended Friday night with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Milwaukee Admirals in an Amtrak Rivalry game at Bradley Center.
Defensemen Petteri Lindbohm and Brent Regner scored third-period goals to get the Wolves (10-4-3-0) into overtime, but Milwaukee forward Pontus Aberg notched the game-winner during 3-on-3 action with 1:39 remaining in the extra session.
Goaltender Matt Climie (5-2-2) stopped 19 of 22 shots in regulation and overtime for Chicago, which posted a 5-3-1-0 record on its nine-game, 20-day trip.
Milwaukee's Austin Watson opened the scoring at 8:58 of the first period. Center Mark Van Guilder slid a no-look pass through the crease to Watson, who flipped the puck home before Wolves goaltender Matt Climie could slide from the right post to the left.
The Admirals (11-3-0-0) pushed their lead to 2-0 with 1:02 left in the second period as they passed the puck around the perimeter on the power play until Viktor Arvidsson teed off from the top of the left circle and went top-shelf over Climie's blocker.
The Wolves cut the margin to 2-1 with Lindbohm's power-play goal at 8:16 of the third period. Chicago unleashed a fusillade on Admirals goaltender Magnus Hellberg and, moments after Philip McRae rang a slap shot off the post from the right circle, Lindbohm collected the rebound at the top of the left circle and buried his fourth goal of the year.
Regner tied the game with 2:32 left in regulation as he rifled a slap shot from long range past Hellberg. Forward Terry Broadhurst carried the puck into the offensive zone, settled at the top of the right circle and waited for Regner to join the play. His blast benefited from Jeremy Welsh's screen at the edge of the crease.
The Wolves enjoyed several chances in overtime, but Aberg ended the action by carrying the puck from his own blue line toward the right face-off dot and slid a shot through a Wolves defenseman and Climie for the winner.
Hellberg contributed 31 saves and assisted on Aberg's goal as he improved his record to 6-0-0.
The Wolves return to Allstate Arena on Saturday for Epilepsy Awareness Night, presented by Heidenhain. The first 2,500 fans through the doors for the 7 p.m. game against Iowa receive a free commemorative Wendell Young T-shirt.
