Sharks Drop 4th Straight After 4-0 Loss to Phantoms

Allentown, PA. - The Worcester Sharks (8-7-1-0, 17pts) dropped their fourth straight game after a 4-0 loss to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (8-6-1-0, 17pts) in front of 8,451 fans at the PPL Center on a Friday evening.

Rookie Anthony Stolarz picked up his first professional win with 36 saves for the Phantoms as the Sharks dropped their fourth straight contest. Worcester's four game road trip (0-2-0-0) continues with a 7pm start in Hershey on Saturday vs. the Bears.

The Phantoms broke out to a 2-0 first period advantage despite Worcester holding a 16-7 shot advantage through 20 minutes. Taylor Leier (4th) scored on the game's first shot after he fired a rocket inside the cross bar after a pass from behind the Sharks net from Blair Jones at 1:44. Lehigh Valley made it 2-0 with a shorthanded goal at 11:15 as defenseman Robert Hagg (2nd) ripped a shot after an offensive face-off win by Blair Jones to the right of JP Anderson.

Defenseman Brandon Manning (5th) scored in his 4th straight game after his shot from the center point was deflected in front of the Worcester net and fluttered over the shoulder of JP Anderson at 1:30 of the second period. Aaron Dell replaced Anderson in net after the score as the Sharks trailed 3-0. Worcester outshot Lehigh Valley 9-6 in the second period but came up empty on goaltender Anthony Stolarz once again.

Lehigh Valley made it 4-0 at 59 seconds of the third period after a turnover inside the Worcester blue line led to a Andrew Gordon (5th) unassisted tally past Aaron Dell. Worcester outshot Lehigh Valley 14-4 in the third period but came up empty on the Phantoms rookie netminder. Micheal Haley (5th FM) fought Oliver Laurdisen (2nd FM) at 2:50 for the only official scrap of the game as the Sharks dropped their 4th straight game.

The Sharks overall record falls to 8-7-1-0, 17pts, and 3-3-0-0, 6pts on the road this season.

Anthony Stolarz made 36 saves on 36 shots for Lehigh Valley in his first home start.... JP Anderson made 8 saves on 11 shots for Worcester in his fifth straight start but was replaced by Aaron Dell at 1:30 of the second period... Dell made 8saves in his Sharks debut.... Worcester went 0-for-5 on the power play while Lehigh Valley went 0-for-5...Petter Emanuelsson (inj), Gus Young, and Jimmy Bonneau did not dress for Worcester...the Sharks have allowed the first goal of the game in eight of their past ten games....Worcester has scored just three goals during their four game skid....the Sharks have allowed a shorthanded goal in back to back games...Haley had a team high 13 penalty minutes.
