Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators snapped the Manchester Monarchs six-game win streak with a 4-3 overtime victory in front of a packed crowd at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. In a game where the teams combined for 130 penalty minutes, Ryan Dzingel tipped home the game-winning shot 1:42 into overtime.
Mike Sdao gave the B-Sens the 1-0 lead 3:24 into the first. Playing in his first game after missing the previous four games due to injury, Sdao blasted a shot from just inside the blue line that beat the Monarchs Jean-Francois Berube just below the crossbar. Manchester needed just over 20 seconds to tie the game 1-1 when Nick Shore notched his ninth of the season off a back-door feed from Brian O'Neill. Binghamton and Manchester traded power-play tallies prior to the end of the frame with the first from Cole Schneider at 5:54 then Jordan Weal at 13:47 to send the teams to the first intermission tied 2-2.
The B-Sens scored the lone marker of the second when Wideman blasted a power-play shot past Berube at 6:25 to give the hosts the 3-2 lead heading into the final period of regulation.
Shore scored his second goal of the night on the power play at 5:50 of the third to even the score 3-3. Following the ensuing faceoff, four skaters aside squared off for a several minute melee that ended with three players from each team skating to the locker room from resulting game misconduct penalties. Despite the adrenaline running high on each bench, the teams skated to a stalemate over the last 14 minutes of play.
Shortly into the overtime period Shane Prince corralled a loose puck in the neutral zone and started a rush down ice. Prince dropped the puck back to a trailing Wideman who sent a wrist shot towards the crease that Dzingel redirected past Berube for his first game-winning goal.
Andrew Hammond played strong in net for Binghamton, stopping 39 of 42 shots faced to earn his fourth victory of the season. Berube made 28 saves for the Monarchs in the losing effort. Both Schneider and Wideman had a goal and an assist to lead the B-Sens offensively.
Binghamton returns to action tomorrow night when they host the Albany Devils at 7:05p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in between 8:00a.m. through the second intermission.
