Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
ALBANY, N.Y. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins jumped out to a 2-0 lead three and a half minutes into the game and never looked back, as they defeated the Albany Devils, 5-1, on Friday night at the Times Union Center.
The win was the second in a row for the Penguins, who improved their record to 11-7-1-0 on the season, good for first place in the East Division. The Devils (7-5-3-1, 18 points, fourth in Northeast Division) dropped their second straight decision, and have now posted just one win in their past eight games.
The Penguins got on the board first in controversial fashion, as Dominik Uher deflected a puck home with his skate. After review, it was determined the third-year pro did not deliberately kick the puck in, and he picked up his third goal of the season to give the Penguins the lead 3:05 into the game.
It took just 18 seconds more for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to extend the lead, as Andrew Ebbett set up Scott Wilson in front of the net for his third goal of the season, and the Penguins took a 2-0 advantage into the second period.
Another pair of quick strikes followed during the early portion of the middle frame, as Josh Archibald and Brian Dumoulin scored 1:41 apart to double the Penguins lead. The two second period tallies chased Keith Kinkaid from the Albany nets after he made just seven saves in 11 attempts.
Jayson Megna added to his team-leading goal total with his ninth of the season less than three minutes into the third period to make it a 5-0 game. But Joe Whitney snapped Jeff Zatkoff's attempt at consecutive shutouts with 13:01 to play, making it a 5-1 contest.
Zatkoff stopped 14 of 15 shots to raise his record to 5-4-0-0 on the season.
The Penguins return home to face the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday night at 7:05pm. Individual tickets for Saturday's game, as well as all Penguins home games are available at the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office, online at TicketMaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000.
Penguins season tickets, including full season, 22-game, 12-game and 10-ticket flex vouchers, are available directly through the Penguins ticket offices at 570-208-7367.
