San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (11-6-0-0) went on a scoring frenzy Friday night, beating the defending Calder Cup Champion Texas Stars (6-5-4-0) 7-1 at the Cedar Park Center. The seven goals scored by the Rampage is the most scored against Texas in the five-year history of the series, and the six-goal win marks the largest margin of victory for the Silver and Black over their West Division rival.
The Rampage finished 3-for-5 on the power play while holding the Stars scoreless on five chances with the man advantage. San Antonio finished with a 44-26 advantage in shots, including a 15-6 margin in the third period.
For the 10th time this season, the Rampage scored first, taking a 1-0 lead just 1:18 into the game. Steven Kampfer's blast from the right point was left in front of the net by Stars goalie Jack Campbell, and Connor Brickley was there to slip it behind him.
The Rampage took control with three goals in the second period. Bobby Butler took a pass from Garrett Wilson, split the defense, and put a shot over Campbell's right shoulder to give the Silver and Black a 2-0 lead just 29 seconds into the stanza. Brickley extended the lead to three when he scored his second goal of the game with four seconds left on a power play. The goal gave Brickley the first multi-point game of his pro career. The Stars answered just over a minute later, as Justin Dowling buried a puck left in front of the net, making it 3-1 at the midway point of the game.
Alex Petrovic scored his first of the season late in the middle frame, taking a pass from Drew Shore on a 3-on-2 break and firing from the slot to give the Rampage a 4-1 lead.
San Antonio's scoring flurry continued in the third period. Garrett Wilson notched a power-play goal, his sixth of the season, to give the Rampage a 5-1 lead just 2:17 into the frame. Brett Olson added to the Rampage's lead, scoring just over a minute later, and Wilson capped San Antonio's scoring on the night, putting the puck past Maxime Legace, who took over in net early in the period.
With the win, the Rampage extend their win streak to six games, their longest winning streak since last season's Rodeo Road Trip.
MVP Six different players recorded multiple points in the victory, led by Wilson, who finished with two goals and two assists. Brickley's two goals came in the first period to give the Silver and Black an early lead. Alex Petrovic added a goal and an assist, Drew Shore tallied three assists and Mark Mancari and Greg Zanon each contributed two helpers.
MILESTONE Butler skated in his 300th professional game Friday night. With a goal to kick off the second-period scoring, Butler is now tied for fourth in the AHL with 18 points. The tally extends Butler's goal streak to three games and his point streak to six.
LINEUP NOTES Wade Megan, who was recalled from the Cincinnati Cyclones on Wednesday, skated on San Antonio's fourth line with Steven Hodges and Logan Shaw. Connor Brickley moved up to the second line in place of Rocco Grimaldi, who was recalled to Florida during the team's Cool School Day game on Tuesday morning.
Dan Ellis made his 11th start of the season, finishing with 24 saves on 25 shots faced.
UP NEXT The Rampage return home on Sunday, Nov. 23 to close the weekend home-and-home series with the Texas Stars. Puck drop is slated for 4 p.m., and it will also be an Express-News Sunday Funday at the AT&T Center. Individual and season tickets can be purchased by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com.
