Peoria Rivermen News Release
Charles Linglet scored twice and added an assist but it wasn't enough as the Peoria Rivermen fell to the Chicago Wolves 7-4 on Wednesday night at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL.
Linglet extended his point-scoring streak to seven games by poking home a rebound of a Nikolay Lemtyugov shot for a 1-0 Peoria lead at 2:41 of the opening frame. Julian Talbot also assisted on the power play goal, which occurred while Boris Valabik sat a double-minor for roughing drawn by newcomer Josh Soares.
The Wolves responded with a pair of goals, the first coming just as time expired on a Peoria penalty kill at 11:10 from Brett Sterling. Nathan Oystrick then one-timed a Jesse Schultz feed past Chris Beckford-Tseu just 51 seconds later while the Wolves were on one of four first period power plays for a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Peoria opened the second period by re-taking the lead, scoring twice for a 3-2 edge. Josh Soares backhanded a loose puck over a sprawling Ondrej Pavelec to tie the game at 2:21, followed by Linglet's second goal of the game from Micki DuPont and Jean-Guy Trudel at 5:52 for his 11th of the year.
Chicago opened up the offensive floodgates with three straight goals for a 5-3 lead from Jason Krog, Sterling's second of the night, and Darren Haydar's first goal since returning from the Atlanta Thrashers, with all three goals just under three minutes apart.
Trent Whitfield replied for the Rivermen with his eighth of the season, jamming home a rebound past Pavelec to bring his club back within one at 13:34, but Krog's second of the night and first on the power play put the game at 6-4 through two periods of play.
Haydar's second of the night iced the win, a power play goal at 16:07 of the final frame. Despite 17 third period shots, the Rivermen were unable to mark again for the 7-4 final.
Beckford-Tseu took the loss with 18 saves while Pavelec stopped 33 Rivermen shots to earn his fifth win of the year.
Chicago finished the night 4-for-9 with the man advantage, Peoria 2-for-10.
The Rivermen will now head to Cleveland to take on the Lake Erie Monsters in back-to-back games Friday and Saturday night at 6:30 pm CST. Pre-game festivities kick off one half-hour before puck drop on your Home for Rivermen Hockey, 96.5 ESPN Radio.
