
Amerks battle River Rats tonight

(Rochester, December 19)... Tonight, the Rochester Americans make their first and only visit to the New York State capital this season to do battle with the Albany River Rats at the Times Union Center. Faceoff for the first of two scheduled meetings between the two New York State teams is set for 7:00 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks. The Amerks are 43-38-9 against the Rats all-time.
Rochester has lost six straight and has fallen to a 10-16-1-2 record, 13th in the American Hockey League Western Conference and fifth in the North Division. The Amerks are 2-8-0-0 in their last 10 contests. Rochester's Mike Weber will rejoin the team tonight after serving a three-game suspension. Weber is currently third among AHL rookies with 21 minor penalties in 24 games. Weber is also fifth among league rookies with 77 penalty minutes and he leads the Amerks' current roster with a plus-one rating. Clarke MacArthur leads the team with nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points. The Amerks captain is presently 13th in the league in power play assists, as 10 of his 15 helpers have come on the man advantage. Mark Mancari currently sits one point behind MacArthur with six goals and 17 assists for 23 points.
Albany has dropped its last two contests but is 16-12-0-2 overall, fifth in the Eastern Conference and second in the East Division. Keith Aucoin leads the River Rats with 22 assists and 27 points. His 22 helpers ties him for fourth in the league. The River Rats' Michael Leighton is third among league goalies with a 2.17 goals-against average. He leads the league with 650 saves, a .929 save percentage and five shutouts. He's 10-11-2 on the season. Forward Jerome Samson likes to fire away. He leads all league rookies with 92 shots and is tied for the league lead among rookies with seven power-play goals. Defenseman Tim Conboy leads the league with 92 penalty minutes.
The Amerks will return to action on Friday, December 21st as they welcome back the Toronto Marlies to The Blue Cross Arena for the second time this season. The 7:35 p.m. North Division contest can be heard live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com, and B2 networks. The game will be the third of eight scheduled meetings between the two teams.
The game ushers in the Pirate Toy Fund, courtesy of Gary the Happy Pirate. Fans can bring a new, unwrapped toy to The Blue Cross Arena Box Office and receive $3.00 off any premium seat. Fans can also enjoy pregame music by Gary the Happy Pirate from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. as part of the Amerks' Friday Night Frenzies. Rochester will conclude the weekend with a non-divisional matchup on Saturday, December 22nd against the Binghamton Senators at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The 7:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks. The contest will be the fourth of eight in the season series. In their previous encounter, the Amerks dropped a 4-3 decision to the Sens on December 9th.
