December 19, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that they have reassigned forward Jonas Almtorp to their ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder. The Falcons also announced that defenseman Danny Syvret has been loaned by the Edmonton Oilers to Team Canada for the Spengler Cup Tournament to be held in Davos, Switzerland from December 26-31.
Almtorp was recently recalled by Springfield on December 10 and has played in seven games with the Falcons not registering a point and two penalty minutes. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound native of Uppsala, Sweden was reassigned to Stockton on October 16, 2007 where he collected five goals and five assists for 10 points and 20 penalty minutes in 22 games. Almtorp is in his first season of professional hockey in North America and was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round (111th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
This will be the second consecutive season that Syvret has represented Canada at the Spengler Cup. One of four returnees from the 2006 Spengler Cup team, the 5'11", 203-pound, 22-year-old native of Millgrove, Ontario helped Team Canada win the silver medal last season, falling 3-2 to the host team, HC Davos, in the gold medal final.
Syvret was also a member of Canada's gold medal winning Junior National Team at the 2005 IIHF World Championship in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Syvret, the Oilers' third choice, 51st overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, has scored a goal and three assists in 26 games with the Falcons this season. He is +4 with six penalty minutes, scoring his lone goal on the power play.
The Falcons return to action on Friday, December 21 when they head to San Antonio for the first time in franchise history. After a pair of games in Texas this weekend, Springfield will return home on Friday, December 28 when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack.
