The Hoffman Estates Park District will break ground on the future practice facility and training center of the Chicago Wolves on Mon., Oct. 27, at 4:30 p.m.

The facility, located at 1685 W. Higgins Rd., will undergo a $12.5 million renovation and expansion to contain two sheets of ice; a new fitness center; party rooms and offices; a pro shop and the Wolves hockey operations office.

The Wolves, who will continue to play regular-season and playoff games at the Allstate Arena, will have the option of hosting exhibition games at the facility, which is scheduled to open in September 2004.

"We always pride ourselves on being a first-class organization and providing our players with the best opportunity to develop their skills," said General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff. "Having this facility will give us a tremendous advantage in maintaining that."

Together with the park district, the Wolves will promote youth hockey at the grass-roots level in the area.

The Wolves Chairman of the Board Don Levin, Vice Chairman Buddy Meyers, the hockey operations department and team captain Steve Maltais will attend Monday's ground-breaking. Maltais and Assistant Coach Wendell Young will sign autographs following the ceremony.
