Wolves Get Help in a Flache

The Atlanta Thrashers have reassigned defenseman Paul Flache to the Chicago Wolves from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL.

Flache, who is making his first-ever trip to the American Hockey League, has posted eight assists, 10 points and a +6 plus/minus rating in 48 games with the Gladiators. The Lakehurst, Ontario, native participated in the Wolves training camp before being reassigned by the Thrashers on Oct. 7.

The 21-year-old blueliner made his professional debut last year with the ECHL¹s Greenville Grrrowl, notching nine assists, 10 points and 64 penalty minutes in 46 games.

Flache was drafted by Atlanta in the fifth round, 144th overall, in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The 6-foot-5-inch, 215-pound defenseman set amateur career-highs in 2001-02 and led team defensemen with nine goals, 35 assists and 44 points in 68 games with the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League. He also registered a team-leading 148 penalty minutes in 2001-02.

Flache played in all 68 regular-season games for Brampton to end his OHL career with a team-record 140 consecutive games. Overall, Flache tallied 18 goals, 51 assists, 69 points and 307 penalty minutes in 190 games with Brampton from 1999 to 2002.
