Crunch double up Senators

February 11, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release

The Syracuse Crunch defeated the Binghamton Senators 6-3 Wednesday night in front of 3,682 fans at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena, ending the Sens' franchise record six-game, home winning streak.

With the Crunch holding a 3-2 lead early in the third period, Derrick Walser notched what turned out to be the game-winning goal seven seconds into Syracuse's fifth power play, slamming home a David Ling cross ice feed behind Ray Emery (24 saves) for a 4-2 advantage.

Ling then delivered the knockout punch after Binghamton had pulled to within 4-3 on Peter Smrek's unassisted shorthanded goal at 9:42.

On the ensuing faceoff, Ling scooped a loose puck between the Sens' defense and came in untouched on Emery and sent a rising wrister under the crossbar just ten seconds later to restore the Crunch's two-goal lead.

Ling finished the night with a goal and two assists to capture Star of the Game honors and goaltender Pascal Leclaire stopped 25 shots as the Crunch closed a five-game road trip with four consecutive wins.

Brooks Laich and Arpad Mihaly picked up the other goals for Binghamton, who let a chance to move to within five points of third place Hershey go by the boards and allowed fifth place Norfolk to close to within three points of the Sens following the Admirals' 4-2 win over Lowell.

The Sens were 1x7 on the power play while allowing two Crunch man-up goals in eight chances.

Binghamton gets its shot at redemption when it travels to Syracuse Friday for a 7:30 faceoff at OnCenter at the War Memorial.
