
'Wolves Fall to Curve 7-3

The SeaWolves could not combat a large Altoona first inning as they dropped the second game of a four-game series at Jerry Uht Park to the Curve by a count of 7-3.
In the top of the first, Brock Holt tripled with one out and scored on a Tony Sanchez double for a 1-0 lead. Matt Curry followed with a two run, opposite field home run for a 3-0 Curve lead. Ramon Cabrera followed with a walk and he moved into scoring position on a Jeremy Farrell base hit. Quincy Latimore singled home Cabrera for a 4-0 Curve edge.
The SeaWolves struck back for a run in the bottom of the first against Curve starter Brandon Cumpton. Niuman Romero led off with a single and stole second. He came home to score on a Jordan Lennerton RBI single making it 4-1.
Altoona added to its lead in the top of the second. Charlie Cutler walked and moved to second when Grossman reached on an error. Holt doubled home Cutler and Grossman scored on a one-out Curry sacrifice fly for a 6-1 Altoona edge.
In the fifth, Cabrera walked against Erie reliever Robbie Weinhardt with one out and scored on a two-out Kelson Brown single making it 7-1.
The 'Wolves attempted to climb back in the game in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Corey Jones singled and with tow outs, Romero cracked his first home run of the season. The two-run blast over the wall in right cut the Curve lead down to 7-3. Erie would get no closer.
Wesson (2-2) took the loss lasting just 2.1 innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits with four walks and no strikeouts.
Cumpton (3-2) earned the win allowing three runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
The SeaWolves and Curve meet in the third game of a four-game series on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park.6:35 First Pitch. LHP Kelvin De La Cruz (1-2, 3.05 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Matt McSwain (1-0, 5.14 ERA).
