Curve Offense Does Wonders in 7-3 Win over Erie

ERIE, Pa. - Altoona's offense exploded with four runs in the first and two more in the second to lead the Curve past the SeaWolves, 7-3, on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park. Matt Curry homered for the first time in 2012 and had three RBI in the first win of the current seven-game road trip.
It was offense aplenty in the first inning with the Curve sending eight men to the plate and scoring four runs. Brock Holt kick-started the offense with a triple to right center with one down and was immediately brought home by a Tony Sanchez double to make it, 1-0. Curry followed with his first home run of the season to make it 3-0 and the offense wasn't done yet.
SeaWolves starter Jared Wesson (2-2) subsequently walked Ramon Cabrera and allowed a single to Jeremy Farrell to put a pair of runners on with just one down. Quincy Latimore followed suit and hit a single of his own back through the middle to bring Cabrera in and make it a 4-0 lead for the Curve.
Erie scratched out a run in the bottom of the first before the Curve offense went back to work against Wesson in the second. Charlie Cutler, who made the start in the outfield on Tuesday, walked to start the inning before Robbie Grossman reached on an error. Holt strolled to the dish and laced his second extra-base hit in as many innings, this time putting a double down the right field line. The double by Holt scored Cutler from second and made it a 5-1 game. Curry struck again two batters later with his third RBI of the game as his sacrifice fly brought Grossman in from third to place Altoona in front 6-1.
The six runs in two innings was more than enough for Curve starter Brandon Cumpton (3-2), who registered his fourth straight quality start. Cumpton tossed six innings, permitting three runs on six hits with a season-best five strikeouts. The win for Cumpton is also his third straight.
Cumpton turned things over to Tim Alderson in the seventh, who was making his first appearance back in Altoona since returning from Triple-A Indianapolis. Alderson continued his solid start with three innings of three-hit, shutout ball. The Arizona native struck out four and registered his second save of the season.
Holt, Farrell and Latimore all had multi-hit games in the victory for the Curve while Sanchez went 1-for-4 to extend his consecutive games on base streak to 13.
With the first win of the road trip under its belt, Altoona (9-14) will try to make it two in a row on Wednesday night in Erie as they take on the SeaWolves (10-13) at 6:35 p.m. RHP Matt McSwain (1-0, 5.14) gets the starting nod for the Curve while LHP Kelvin de la Cruz (1-2, 3.05 ERA) starts for the Howlers.
