'Wolves Extend Win Streak to Four with 8-5 Win

The SeaWolves grabbed an early lead for the second straight night and held on as they took down the Akron Aeros 8-5 on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park. The win puts the SeaWolves back at the .500 mark at 15-15.

The 'Wolves jumped ahead against Akron starter Matt Packer in the bottom of the first inning. Brandon Douglas reached base on a fielder's choice and with one out, was doubled home by Ben Guez for a 1-0 lead. Guez would later score on an error for a 2-0 Erie advantage.

Erie added to its lead in the second. With two outs, Justin Henry singled and stole second. Jamie Johnson slapped a single to left, scoring Henry for a 3-0 lead. Douglas followed with a single putting two on for Guez. Guez connected on a rope down the right field line, plating two runs for a 5-0 lead. Guez ended up on third with his league-leading fifth triple.

Akron got on the board in the top of the fourth against Erie starter Mark Sorensen. With one out, Chun Chen slapped a single to right. He came home to score on an error by Henry in left on a Juan Diaz single making it a 5-1 game.

In the bottom of the fourth, the 'Wolves would continue to come up with big hits. Francisco Martinez extended his hitting streak to seven straight games with a double off the wall in left-center. Henry followed and reached base on a Jared Goedert error. On the same play, Martinez scored from second for a 6-1 Erie lead. With one out, Douglas singled home Henry for a 7-1 lead.

The Aeros attempted a comeback against the Erie bullpen late in the game. In the seventh, Tim Fedroff doubled home Jordan Henry to make it a 7-2 game.

In the top of the eighth, Matt McBride lead off with a solo home run to left, cutting the 'Wolves lead down to four. John Drennen followed with a walk and he moved into scoring position on a Kyle Bellows double. A walk to Jordan Henry loaded the bases for Karexon Sanchez. Sanchez singled home Drennen making it 7-4. Bellows scored on a Goedert fielder's choice, cutting the Erie lead down to a pair of runs at 7-5.

In the bottom of the eighth, Bryan Holaday extended his hitting streak to eight straight games with a one-out double. Holaday moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out Justin Henry single for an 8-5 lead.

Chance Ruffin came into the game and got the final out of the eighth and worked a perfect ninth with a pair of strikeouts preserving the win, picking up his third save.

Sorensen was stellar, improving his record to 2-2, snapping a two-game slide. He worked six innings, allowing an unearned run on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
