Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ) - In front of 5,284 fans Tuesday night at Waterfront Park, the Trenton Thunder (17-15) beat the Reading Phillies (19-12) 4-2 in game two of the three game series. Cody Johnson homered to aid Thunder starter Manny Banuelos, who picked-up his first regular season win since August of 2009. The win gives the Thunder their fourth-straight series win and their sixth victory in their last seven tries.
The Thunder scored in each of the first three innings against Phillies highly-touted pitching prospect J.C. Ramirez and led 4-1 after three frames. Bradley Suttle and Ray Kruml both had RBI-singles, Kruml scored from third on an error by Reading shortstop Freddy Galvis and Cody Johnson homered to right field to give Trenton the lead that would hold-up for the length of the game.
Manny Banuelos went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits along the way. The Yankees top left-handed pitching prospect handed the ball to the Thunder bullpen, who shutout the Phillies for the final four frames. Trenton's relief corps have now thrown 20 and two thirds consecutive scoreless innings, dating back to the ninth inning of Trenton's May 5 win against Portland.
Trenton will attempt to sweep the Reading Phillies Wednesday night at 7:05 PM in the finale of the three-game series at Waterfront Park. LHP Shaeffer Hall (2-2, 2.92) will take the mound for the Thunder, and he will face Reading's RHP Austin Hyatt (4-1, 3.27). The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 6:45 PM.
