Altoona Curve News Release

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Harrisburg Senators get 12 hits and nine runs as they handed the Altoona Curve their worst loss of the season, 9-2, on Tuesday night in Harrisburg.

Off Curve starter Aaron Pribanic in the first inning, Archie Gilbert hit a two-out bloop single to left to keep the inning alive for Bill Rhinehart who smashed a two-run home run to right to take a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, Pribanic (3-1) allowed only his third walk of the season, to Derek Norris, to lead off the inning, and one hit later, Norris was on third with no one out. The next batter, Tim Pahuta hit a sacrifice fly to right to bring Norris home and extend the lead to three.

The Curve got back in the ballgame in the fifth as Miles Durham singled to lead off the inning, and then with two down, Brock Holt hit his first home run of the season to make it a 3-2 game. The Curve would end up loading the bases with two out but stranded all three runners.

The lead was restored to three runs as it was Rhinehart again with a two-run shot in the fifth inning off Pribanic to make it a 5-2 ballgame.

Pribanic went five innings and allowed five runs on eight hits and was lifted in the sixth for Matt McSwain who threw a clean inning. In the seventh off Tom Boleska, the Chris Rahl led the inning off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly to open the lead to four at 6-2.

Off Boleska in the eighth, the Senators recorded three more hits, including their third triple of the night, and three more runs to balloon their lead to 9-2.

For the Senators, Shairon Martis went six strong innings allowing only two runs and he was relieved by Carlos Martinez in the seventh who struck out the side, and Hassan Pena did likewise in the eighth. Pena also worked a scoreless ninth for the Senators.

With the loss the Curve drop 1.5 games behind first place, tied for their largest deficit behind first place this season. They will also look to avoid being swept for the first time this season in the game on Wednesday in the finale of a three-game series.

The Curve (14-16) will finish their series with Harrisburg (16-15) on Wednesday morning as LHP Jeff Locke (1-3, 3.41) will be on the hill and he will be opposed by RHP Erik Davis (1-1, 3.08). Game time is set for 10:30 a.m. at Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg, Pa. with pregame coverage on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network will begin at 10:00 a.m.
