
'Wolves Down Aeros in 10 Innings

It took 10 innings and over 3 ½ hours of play, but the SeaWolves took down the Akron Aeros in game one of a three-game series at Canal Park thanks to a two-run home run in the team's last at bat.
The Aeros struck first in the bottom of the first inning against spot starter Roman Colon. Trevor Crowe led off the inning and he hit a solo home run over the wall in centerfield for a 1-0 Aeros lead. It was the second home run of the season for Crowe against Erie. Colon then gave up a single to Asdrubal Cabrera and a walk to Jordan Brown, but battled back to get the final three outs of the inning with no further damage.
The SeaWolves struck right back in the top of the second. Jackson Melian, who entered the game tied for eighth in the league in batting (.320) slammed a line drive double to the gap in right center. Jeff Larish followed by reaching on an error by Cabrera at short to put two aboard with no outs. Erick Almonte, with one out, singled home Melian, tying the game at 1-1. Matt Joyce then doubled off the wall in right field, plating Larish, giving Erie its first lead of the game at 2-1. With Joyce at second and Almonte at third, Kody Kirkland hit a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Almonte for a 3-1 lead.
Akron would cut the lead down to a run in the bottom of the third as Crowe led off the inning and connected on his second solo home run of the game making it 3-2 Erie.
Erie would go back up by two runs in the top of the fourth inning on one of the most exciting plays in baseball. With one out in the inning, Joyce slammed a ball deep to right field, on the play, Barton leaped to make the catch, slamming against the wall, Barton would go down on the play as Joyce raced around the basepads and he made it all the way home on an inside the park home run, his 12th of the season, for a 4-2 Erie advantage.
The Aeros cut into the âWolves lead once again in the bottom of the fourth as Ryan Goleski roped his fifth home run around the left field foul pole, cutting the Erie lead down to 4-3.
In the bottom of the fifth, Akron would tie the ballgame without recording a hit in the inning. Cabrera led off the inning and reached on an error by Larish at first. A passed ball got Cabrera to second and with one out Kevin Ardoin issued back-to-back walks to load the bases. Goleski grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Cabrera, tying the game at 4-4. Ardoin would again walk the bases loaded when he issued a free pass to Rodney Choy Foo, but Matt Rusch came in and got the final out.
The âWolves again struck right back in the top of the sixth against reliever Rich Rundles. Steve Torrealba doubled down the left field line with one out and Almonte connected on his second single of the to put runners on the corners for Joyce. Joyce came through again with his third hit of the game, an RBI single, scoring Torrealba, giving Erie the 5-4 advantage.
Akron would again come back to tie it up in the bottom of the eighth with two outs against Randor Bierd. With Goleski on second following a walk, Argenis Reyes tripled home the game tying run, making it 5-5.
The score would remain tied and the game went into extra innings. In the top of the 10th inning with one out, Melian reached on a wild pitch after a strikeout to put the go-ahead run on base. With two down, Torrealba came to the plate and on the first pitch of the at bat, slammed his seventh home run of the season to put the âWolves on top 7-5. The home run was the second game-winning home run of the season for Torrealba against Akron and it was his seventh long ball of the season.
