Trenton Thunder News Release
(Harrisburg, PA)- Matt Carson, Juan Miranda and P.J. Pilittere combined for seven hits, while Thunder pitching retired the final 20 Harrisburg batters of the night in a 4-2 Trenton win on Saturday. The victory is the eight straight for the Thunder.
Harrisburg (31-58) took a 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning thanks to a solo homer by DH Josh Whitesell off Thunder starter Ian Kennedy. Trenton (55-31) tied the game in the 3nd Inning on a double by Carson and a RBI single from Pilittere, but Harrisburg took the lead back in the bottom half, 2-1, on a doubleplay ground ball. Trenton tied it a 2-2 in the 4th Inning started by a Miranda double, who later scored on a sacrifice fly from LF Colin Curtis.
Trenton then took the lead for good in the 6th Inning as SS Alberto Gonzalez singled to start the inning, moved to 3rd Base on an error by Harrisburg starter Jim Magrane and scored on a double by Miranda. Magrane (2-5) allowed three runs in six innings for the loss. Trenton starter Ian Kennedy (5-1), who retired the final 11 batters he faced on the night, got the win with two runs and two hits allowed in six innings. He walked three and struck out four.
The Thunder bullpen then added three "perfect" innings of relief, two by Scott Patterson and one by Tim Lavigne. Lavigne worked a 1-2-3 9th Inning for his 6th save.
The series continues on Sunday at 1:05 PM. Jason Jones (6-4, 2.86) starts for the Thunder against Harrisburg's Garrett Mock (1st start).
