Justin Masterson Added to Sea Dogs Roster

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have promoted right-handed pitcher Justin Masterson to the Sea Dogs from Single-A Lancaster. Masterson will wear uniform # 35. Sea Dogs' right-handed pitcher T.J. Nall and left-handed pitcher Kyle Fernandes were transferred to Single-A Lancaster.
The 22 year-old, Masterson, has won his last six starts and is third in the California League with eight wins. In 17 starts for the JetHawks this season, Masterson has recorded a 8-5 record with a 4.33 ERA. He was the winning pitcher on July 4th when the JetHawks captured the first half Southern Division title in the California League. Masterson tossed seven innings allowing two runs on five hits to earn the win. He was 5-1 with a 2.89 ERA in June and was honored as the Red Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Month. Masterson was selected by the Red Sox in the second round of the June 2006 draft. He is the 13th ranked prospect in the Red Sox organization according to Baseball America.
Nall was signed as a minor league free agent by the Red Sox and assigned to Double-A Portland on June 30th. He made two appearances with the Sea Dogs posting a 0-2 record with a 9.00 ERA. Previously this season, Nall has spent time at Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Columbus in the Washington Nationals' organization. In 12 starts with Harrisburg he has posted a 3-9 record with a 4.85 ERA. In four games with Columbus this season, Nall was 0-1 with a 9.45 ERA. Last season with Double-A Jacksonville he posted a 10-7 record. He led the Southern League with 155 strikeouts and ranked sixth in ERA at 2.82. The 25 year-old was drafted by the Dodgers in the eighth round of the June 1999 draft.
Fernandes joined the Sea Dogs on July 2nd from Single-A Greenville. He made one appearance for the Sea Dogs, tossing 2.2 innings allowing two runs on six hits. The 21 year-old from Westport, Massachusetts was drafted by the Red Sox in the 12th round of the June 2005 draft.
The Portland Sea Dogs begin their final series before the All-Star Break tonight at 7:05 PM against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Manchester, New Hampshire. The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field on Thursday, July 12th following the Eastern League All-Star break. Tickets for most Sea Dogs home games are available.
