Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves played their final home game of the 2014-15 season as the Peterborough Petes visited the Nickel City Friday night. It was a very special night for the Sudbury Wolves as they honoured their two overage players, Jeff Corbett and Brody Silk prior to the game. To add to the night, it marked the return of former Wolves' star Nathan Pancel who is also closing out his overage season with the Petes. The Wolves finished off a rocky season with a 3-1 win on home ice giving the fans plenty to cheer about.
Both teams came out swinging in the first period holding nothing back. Sudbury native CAMERON LIZOTTE opened the game with a big hit on MATT SCHMALZ, which lead to a scrum between JONATHAN DUCHESNE and LIZOTTE. The opening frame was filled with penalties for both teams but no scoring took place. Shots on goal after the first were 13-9 in favour of the Wolves.
It was BRADY PATAKI who opened the scoring minutes into the second period to put the Wolves up 1-0. CHAD HEFFERNAN added another goal in the frame to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead. Peterborough responded with a powerplay goal from JOSH MACDONALD at the 10 minute mark of the frame. That was it for the frame as the Wolves headed into the dressing room up 2-1 after 40 minutes.
Special teams dominated the third period as the Wolves were given multiple powerplay opportunities to extend the lead. Both goalies stood tall through the frame not allowing any goals in. The Wolves added an empty netter to seal the deal as the Wolves who won their last home game of the season 3-1. The Molson Canadian Three Stars of the game went to overage players NATHAN PANCEL, JEFF CORBETT and BRODY SILK.
The Wolves will close out the 2014-15 season on the road with stops in Peterborough, Belleville and Ottawa next weekend. Fans can follow the Wolves on the road by tuning into KFM 95.5 for the live play-by-play or watch on Eastlink TV, channel 10.
