David Miller scored and added a pair of assists, helping the Kitchener Rangers to a 5-3 win over the Guelph Storm on Friday night. Jake Paterson stopped 45-of-48 for the Rangers and was recognized with first star honours.

The Rangers opened the scoring just past the midway point of the first period. David Miller carried the puck into the Storm zone and dropped it back to Frank Hora. The sophomore rearguard snapped a shot past Guelph starter Justin Nichols for his fourth goal of the season, and extended a three game point streak (one goal/six assists). Brandon Robinson also collected an assist on the play to push his point streak to a fifth game.

Adam Mascherin pushed Kitchener to a 2-0 lead less than three minutes later, capitalizing on the power play. Miller put the goal in motion, feeding a pass between two defenders to the rookie in front of the net. Mascherin swept a shot past Nichols for his 12th of the season and second tally in as many nights. Hora picked up an assist on the play, his second point of the contest.

Kitchener continued to press late in the game, adding a third goal with less than three minutes to play in the opening frame. Max Iafrate stepped out of the penalty box and jumped on the rush with Robinson, who hit the overage rearguard with a cross ice pass. Iafrate chipped a shot over Nichols to pot his 10th of the year and his third goal in two games. Captain Liam Maaskant also earned a helper on the play.

The Rangers closed the period with a late goal, taking a 4-0 lead into the first intermission. Miller picked up his 19th marker of the season, racing in alone and beating Nichols, recording his third point of the game.

Kitchener out-shot the Storm 21-9 through 20 minutes, ending Nichols' night. Guelph elected to send Bradley Van Schubert to the crease to open the second period.

Team scoring leader Tyler Bertuzzi put the Storm on the board early in the second period, recording a power play goal six minutes in. The Detroit Red Wings prospect lifted a shot into the top corner of the net, over Rangers starter Jake Paterson to notch his team-leading 43rd of the season. Jason Dickinson and Robby Fabbri earned the assists on the lone goal of the period.

Guelph led shots on goal 16-11 in the middle frame.

Connor Bunnaman added to the Kitchener's lead early in the third, pushing the team ahead 5-1. Van Schubert stopped Iafrate, but could not corral the rebound, leaving the rookie on the doorstep to tap in the loose puck. Darby Llewellyn recorded the second assist on Bunnaman's ninth of the year.

Import forward Pius Suter chipped away at the Rangers lead midway through the final frame. Bertuzzi's shot on goal was blocked by Paterson, but Swiss sophomore hammered in the rebound for his 39th of the season. Fabbri collected his second point of the night with a helper on the play.

Fabbri added a marker of his own with six minutes left to play, cutting the Storm's deficit to two goals. The St. Louis Blues prospect fired a long shot past Paterson, his third point of the game. Tyler Hill and Garrett McFadden picked up helpers on Fabbri's 22nd tally of the season

The Storm out-shot the Rangers 24-4 in the third, and finished with a 48-36 overall advantage. Paterson made 45 saves to collect his fourth straight win and was named the contest's first star.
