Belleville Bulls News Release

KINGSTON, ON - The Belleville Bulls and their rivals from the Limestone city met for the final time this season at the Rogers K-Rock Centre on Friday night. The Fronts took advantage of a two goal third period and capped off a 34-year tradition between the two clubs with a 5-2 win on home ice.

Kingston shooters tested rookie netminder Connor Hicks early on with a couple of good scoring chances. Just over the 14-minute mark Conor McGlynn stepped over the blue line and netted his 21st of the campaign. The visiting Bulls saw their best scoring chance of the frame when Matt Luff found Trent Fox on a two on one but Jeremy Helvig made the sliding save. Kingston led 12-11 in shots after the first 20 minutes of action.

Following a standing ovation from a sold out crowd at the K-Rock Centre in honour of one of the best rivalries in the OHL, the Bulls got the equalizer. Over age forward Brett Welychka jammed home his 16th of the season from Andrew Ming and Brett Gustavsen at 6:25.

Later in the stanza the Fronts jumped back out in front when Finland import Juho Lammikko snapped a quick shot past Hicks off the draw for his 15th of the year. Kingston led 29-28 in shots after two periods.

The Bulls quickly went down a man to start the final frame when blueliner Justin Lemcke sat two minutes for hooking. Kingston took advantage as Sam Bennett wired home his 7th of the campaign. Spencer Watson and Roland McKeown picked up the assists. Just under three minutes later while killing another penalty, Whitby, Ontario native Adam Laishram drove the net and potted his 9th of the year shorthanded. Michael Cramarossa and Adam Bignell added helpers on the goal that cut the lead to one.

Kingston had an answer, however. At 11:09 hometown boy Ryan Verbeek took a pass from Cody Caron and buried his 6th of the season. 1995-born defenceman Jacob Graves was credited with the other assist.

Bennett added an empty netter with 13 seconds remaining in regualtion.

With the loss, the Bulls fall to 25-31-3-4. Connor Hicks makes 38 saves and earns third star honours.
