Lone Goal for Oshawa Isn't Enough in 2-1 Loss to the 67's

Oshawa Generals News Release

It was a tough loss on the road as the Gens fell 2-1 in their sixth and final meeting with the 67's in the regular season. Liam Herbst put on quite the performance, blocking 31 shots on goal to keep the 67's ahead. Tonight's game was the start of a three-game weekend for the Gens.

The Generals weren't able to get by Herbst in the opening period. Hunter Smith had the first scoring opportunity but was shutdown early on. Despite outshooting the 67's 11-6 in the first, it was Ottawa who ended up with the lone goal after Bradley Latour was given a four-minute penalty for checking Dante Salituro from behind. Salituro recovered and found his revenge quickly by scoring on Appleby on the power play. After Taylor Davis received two minutes for cross-checking, Michael Dal Colle found the back of the net but the goal was immediately waved off by officials, for what seemed to be goalie inference. Oshawa wasn't able to tie things up and were down 1-0 after the first 20.

The 67's continued to be successful on the man advantage in the second. After Cole Cassels took an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for coach DJ Smith, Salituro once again was able to find the net on the power play for the second time tonight. With a 2-0 lead, the 67's showed their ability to compete with the number one ranked team. Ottawa went on another power play in the last six minutes of the period with Chris Carlisle off for boarding but thankfully the Gens fought that one off. With 38 seconds left in the second, Tobias Lindberg scored a much-needed goal for Oshawa, which cut Ottawa's lead in half. Matt Mistele and Josh Brown were credited the assists on the only Oshawa goal. It was a 2-1 game after 40 mins, with the Generals outshooting the 67's 23-14.

The Generals controlled most of the third, putting some good chances on Herbst. Oshawa managed nine shots on net, compared to only three for the 67's in the final 20 minutes. The Gens had an extra man for the final two minutes of the game but were unable to set something up. Even though Oshawa controlled the majority of the period, it was Ottawa who held onto the lead for the win. Tonight marks Ottawa's second win out of six meetings with the Generals this season.

The team is back at home tomorrow when they host the Mississauga Steelheads at 7:05p.m. The Kingston Frontenacs will visit the GM Centre on Sunday for a 6:05p.m. matchup. Sunday's game marks the second last home game in the regular season so it's bound to be a good one! To purchase tickets click here, visit the GM Centre Box Office, or call 1-877-436-8811.
