
Saginaw Stifles Sting Friday Night

The Saginaw Spirit travelled to the RBC Centre to take the ice against the Sarnia Sting on Friday night, with Saginaw taking a 4-3 victory over Sarnia.
The Saginaw Spirit controlled the first period of play against the Sting thanks to some strong offensive play and superb goaltending by Evan Cormier. Kris Bennett struck first for the Spirit, netting his 8th goal of the season at 4:13 of the period. Mitchell Stephens scored two goals to make it a 3-0 game over the Sting. Stephens' first goal of the evening came at 11:53 of the period, with Jake Ringuette on the assist. At the 13:00 mark Stephens put home his 21st goal of the season and second of the night with the help of Marcus Crawford and Jesse Barwell. The scoreboard read 3-0 Saginaw after the first 20 minutes of play, with the Spirit outshooting the Sting 17-11.
The Sarnia Sting played a serious game of catch up in the second, netting three goals within the period. Noah Bushnell put the first tally of the evening on the board for Sarnia at 3:23 of the period. Troy Lajeuenesse cut the Spirit lead to one goal at 10:15 of the period, followed by a game-tying goal from Hayden Hodgson at 16:21. The game was tied 3-3 with shots favoring the Sarnia Sting after 40 minutes of play.
Vladislav Kodola was able find the net one last time for the Saginaw Spirit in the third period, giving way to a 4-3 win over the Sarnia Sting. Kodola's unassisted goal came at 9:40 of the third period and was his 5th goal of the season. The final score read 4-3 with the Spirit outshooting Sarnia 36-32.
The Saginaw Spirit will have an important home and home matchup against the Plymouth Whalers this coming weekend. Saturday March 14th the Spirit will play host to the Plymouth Whalers for the last time at the Dow Event Center, with puck drop scheduled for 7:11 p.m. Sunday the Spirit will be in Plymouth as they take on the Whalers for a 2:00 p.m. game at Compuware Arena. This game can be heard on the flagship station of the Saginaw Spirit FM Talk and Sports WSGW 100.5.
