
'Wolves Clobber Mets 12-3 on Wednesday Night

The SeaWolves scored early and often as they clobbered the Binghamton Mets on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium, 12-3. The nine runs equals Erie's largest margin for victory in 2011.
The 'Wolves struck first in the top of the second against Binghamton starter Jeurys Famila. Francisco Martinez walked with one out and moved to third on a Michael Bertram single. Martinez scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Audy Ciriaco for a 1-0 lead.
Erie added to the lead in the top of the second. John Murrian led off and slammed a solo home run to straight away center, his first, for a 2-0 lead. Jamie Johnson followed with his ninth double. With one out, Justin Henry singled putting two on for Rawley Bishop. Bishop reached on an error by the second baseman Reese Havens and Johnson scored for a 3-0 Erie edge. Martinez walked loading the bases and with two outs, Ciriaco singled to right plating two for a 5-0 lead.
Binghamton cut the lead down to four in the bottom of the third against Erie starter Mark Sorensen when Jordanny Valdespin connected on a leadoff, solo home run, his third, over the wall in right to make it 5-1.
In the fourth, Brandon Douglas walked with two outs and stole second. Henry doubled home Douglas for a 6-1 lead.
In the fifth, Martinez led off and reached on an error. Bertram followed drawing a walk putting two on for Ciriaco who doubled home Martinez for a 7-1 lead. With one out, Murrian grounded home Bertram for an 8-1 Erie advantage.
The 'Wolves continued to pour on the runs in the sixth against reliever Brandon Sage. Henry led off and was hit by a pitch and Bishop walked putting two on for Martinez. Martinez crushed his team-leading sixth home run over the wall in left for an 11-1 lead.
In the seventh, Douglas doubled with two outs off of reliever Roy Merritt. Pinch hitter Shawn Roof doubled home Douglas for a 12-1 lead.
The Mets would plate two in the bottom of the seventh making it 12-3 but they would get no closer.
Ramon Garcia tossed the final two innings scoreless for Erie.
Sorensen (5-2) won his third straight and fourth in his last five starts. He allowed three runs on eight hits with a walk and five strikeouts in seven innings of work. It was the fourth time this season that Sorensen has worked seven or more innings in a game. He is Erie's team leader with five wins.
The 'Wolves go for the series win on Thursday morning at NYSEG Stadium.10:35 a.m. First Pitch. Righty Casey Crosby (2-2, 3.05 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against RHP Tobi Stoner (0-1, 10.80 ERA).
